What Is a Broadband and Home Phone Bundle?

A broadband and home phone bundle combines your internet connection and landline service into a single monthly payment from one provider. Instead of separate contracts and bills, you get both on one deal, typically at a lower combined cost than buying each independently.
Most bundles include a set level of calls (evening and weekend, or anytime) as part of the monthly price. You can add international calling, mobile calls, or pay-as-you-go for occasional use. The key advantage is simplicity: one bill, one provider, one account to manage.

Do I Still Need a Landline for Broadband in 2026?

No, full-fibre (FTTP) broadband does not require an active phone line. Neither does Virgin Media cable or 5G home broadband. If you only want internet, a broadband-only deal is available from most major providers.
However, if you want to keep a landline number, a bundle is the simplest option. Be aware that the UK's traditional copper phone network (PSTN) is being switched off by December 2027. New VoIP-based landlines run over your broadband connection rather than copper wires, your number stays the same, but you may need a compatible handset and a battery backup for use during power cuts.

Types of Broadband Package Available

Understanding which package type suits your household helps you filter to the right deals before comparing prices.

1

Broadband Only

Internet connection with no phone line included. Available on full-fibre FTTP, Virgin Media cable, and 5G home broadband. Best for households with no landline use.

2

Broadband + Home Phone

Internet plus a landline number, typically with evening/weekend calls included. One bill, one provider. Good for households who use the landline regularly.

3

Broadband + TV

Internet plus a TV package, Sky, Virgin Media, and BT/EE all offer these. Usually 18 or 24-month contracts. Best for households paying separately for broadband and TV.

4

Full Bundle (Broadband + Phone + TV)

All three services from one provider, one bill, one contract. Can be the best value when you need all three, but only worthwhile if you actively use the TV content included.

Which Home Phone Call Plan Do You Need?

Evening & Weekend Calls

Free calls Monday to Friday from 7pm to 7am, and all weekend. Best for light landline users who mainly call family during off-peak hours.

Anytime UK Calls

Free unlimited calls to UK landlines 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Suits daily callers, older adults, and home workers who make frequent UK calls.

International Calls Bundle

Covers 50-200 countries for an extra £3-£10 per month. Ideal for families with relatives abroad, compare which countries are included per plan before signing.

Pay-as-You-Go

No inclusive calls, you are charged per minute. Works out cheapest if you rarely use the landline but want a number for emergencies.

Five Things to Check When Comparing Bundles

1

Calls to Mobiles

Evening/weekend plans usually cover landlines only. If you call mobile numbers from the landline, verify whether they are included or charged per minute.

2

PSTN Digital Switchover

The UK copper phone network closes in 2027. New VoIP-based landlines run over broadband, check your handsets are compatible and consider a battery backup for use during power cuts.

3

Number Porting Timeline

Switching providers and keeping your existing number takes 10-14 days. Plan around any important calls during that window and confirm your new provider handles porting automatically.

4

Price-Rise Guarantees

Standard contracts allow providers to raise prices mid-term. Some deals come with a price-lock for the full contract, filter for these on Switch if monthly cost predictability matters to you.

5

True Bundle Saving

Calculate the combined cost of broadband and phone plan separately versus the bundle price. Include setup fees and any call-plan add-ons before deciding the bundle is genuinely cheaper.

How to Compare and Switch Your Broadband and Home Phone Bundle

Five steps to a cheaper combined bill

1Step

Enter Your Postcode

Switch checks which providers actually cover your address, including whether full-fibre speeds are available on your street. Postcode accuracy removes deals you cannot get.

2Step

Select Your Call Plan

Filter by evening/weekend, anytime, or international calling to narrow results to bundles that match how you use the phone. Add your estimated monthly call volume to compare total cost accurately.

3Step

Compare Full Monthly Cost

Switch shows setup fees, price-rise schedules, and whether any calls are charged per minute on top of the monthly price. No hidden extras.

4Step

Port Your Number

When you sign up, give your new provider your current number. They arrange the porting, it takes 10-14 days. You do not need to contact your old provider first.

5Step

Set a Contract-End Reminder

Switch alerts you 30 days before your contract expires. Out-of-contract rates typically rise by £10-£25 per month, re-shopping before that date saves significantly over the year.

Compare broadband and home phone deals — questions

Do I still need a landline for broadband?

No — most modern broadband (full fibre, cable) works without a landline. But a phone bundle can still be cheaper than two separate bills if you make calls regularly.
