What Is a Broadband Coverage Checker?
Broadband Technologies We Check
Our checker covers all four main connection types available in the UK.
Full Fibre (FTTP) — Up to 1,000 Mbps
Fibre-to-the-premises. The fastest and most reliable technology — a fibre-optic cable runs directly to your home with no copper involved. Ideal for families and remote workers.
Fibre Broadband (FTTC) — Up to 80 Mbps
Fibre-to-the-cabinet. Fibre reaches your street cabinet, then copper wire runs to your home. Speed varies by distance from the cabinet. The most common type in the UK.
Cable (Virgin Media) — Up to 1,130 Mbps
Virgin Media's cable network delivers very fast speeds independently of Openreach. Available in around 60% of UK homes, primarily urban and suburban areas.
SOGEA / ADSL — Up to 24 Mbps
Copper-based connections using the old telephone network. Being phased out by Openreach by December 2027. Only remains in areas with no fibre upgrade yet.
How to Check Broadband Availability at Your Address
Four simple steps — no account, no personal details required.
Enter Your Postcode
Type your full UK postcode into the checker and press 'Check now'. No name, email or personal details are required — just the postcode.
View Available Technologies
See which broadband types are available at your address: FTTP (full fibre), FTTC (standard fibre), Virgin Media cable or SOGEA. Each is clearly labelled with the technology and maximum speed.
Compare Providers and Speeds
For each available technology, see which providers offer service and what maximum speeds you can expect. FTTP results include multiple providers where the altnet or Openreach network is present.
Switch to a Better Deal
Choose your preferred deal and Switch handles the rest. Switching typically takes 2–4 weeks. You will receive updates throughout — your broadband stays live until the new connection is confirmed.

The PSTN Switch-Off — Why Checking Coverage Matters Now
30+ Providers Checked in One Lookup
Our checker covers all major UK broadband networks. Openreach-based: BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Plusnet, EE, Vodafone and NOW Broadband. Independent networks: Virgin Media (cable), Hyperoptic, CityFibre, Zen Internet, Shell Energy Broadband, John Lewis Broadband, Giganet, KCOM and more. Coverage data is updated regularly so results reflect the latest network rollout.
Because altnets like Hyperoptic and CityFibre build their own full-fibre infrastructure, availability can vary street by street — even within the same postcode. Our checker shows all options confirmed for your specific postcode so there are no surprises.
Ready to Switch to a Better Deal?
Compare broadband, TV and phone packages from all major UK providers. Once you have checked what's available at your address, Switch shows you every deal ranked by total monthly cost — no sign-up required.
