Plusnet broadband deals UK 2026: Full Fibre first-year cost explained

When we checked plus.net on 26 October 2026, Plusnet Full Fibre started from £21.99 a month with no activation fee on a 24-month contract, rising to £25.99 from 31 March 2027 and £29.99 from 31 March 2028. The figures below come from our 14 September 2026 check, when the offer was £21.99 for six months then £25.99, so run Plusnet’s postcode checker for today’s price at your address.

On 14 September 2026, Plusnet’s own broadband shop headlined Full Fibre from £21.99 a month for six months, then £25.99 — £287.88 over the first twelve months of monthly charges before any one-off activation. On that date the same page also showed Full Fibre “from £22.99” with a Reward Card on selected plans, and rises to £29.00 from 31 March 2027 and £33.00 from 31 March 2028. When we checked again on 26 October 2026, the price rose to £25.99 from 31 March 2027 and £29.99 from 31 March 2028 instead, with a £50 Reward Card on Full Fibre 500 and a £75 Reward Card on Full Fibre 900. Reward Cards are not counted in the first-year cost above.

How to read Plusnet’s September 2026 shop

How we worked out the figures:

• Prices and rise dates come from Plusnet’s own website, as shown when we checked on 14 September 2026.

• First-year monthly cost = intro months × intro price + remaining months × ongoing price within month 1–12. Activation fees are listed separately. Reward Cards are listed but not subtracted, because Plusnet doesn’t take them off your bill.

• Network noted: Plusnet Full Fibre is Openreach, not Virgin Media coax.

• Your postcode decides which speeds you can buy — national headline prices are a starting point, not a guarantee at your address.

Plusnet is a BT Group brand aimed at value Full Fibre. When we checked on 14 September 2026, speeds on sale included Full Fibre 74, 145, 300, 500 and 900, plus a slower Fibre tier of up to about 66Mb. Prices and Reward Cards depend on the address you enter in Plusnet’s postcode checker.

Why the first-year cost was £287.88 on the September introductory price

Six months at £21.99 is £131.94. Six months at £25.99 is £155.94. Together that is £287.88 of monthly broadband charges in the first year on the 14 September offer. On that date, one footnote paired a £9.99 activation fee with a Month 1 total of £32.98 and different rises (£26.99 / £30.99), which looked like a separate price plan. When we checked on 26 October 2026, Plusnet advertised no activation fee on Full Fibre, so check the upfront cost on your order summary.

Reward Cards are prepaid spend cards, not bill credit. Plusnet’s footnotes say claim details arrive by email within about two weeks of activation, with their own T&Cs. The cards (£50 / £60 / £100 on 14 September; £50 / £75 when we checked on 26 October 2026) are left out of the first-year monthly cost column so you can compare monthly broadband cost honestly against Virgin, Sky, Community Fibre or Hyperoptic without mixing a high-street voucher into the ISP bill.

Openreach vs Virgin — why it matters on a Plusnet page

Plusnet Full Fibre rides Openreach FTTP where the cabinet and spine are ready. That is the same physical fibre family as BT, EE and many alt-ISPs on Openreach — not Virgin Media’s coax/HFC footprint. If your street is Virgin-only and Openreach Full Fibre is “coming soon”, Plusnet cannot magic a 900Mb circuit into existence. Openreach may survey before connecting Full Fibre. Plusnet’s own terms say they will contact you if extra work is needed, and you can cancel the order without charge if you do not want to proceed on that basis. Build a few days of install slack into any work-from-home cutover.

Mid-contract rises — fixed pounds, not surprise RPI

After Ofcom’s crackdown on inflation-linked mid-contract rises, Plusnet shows its rises in pounds and pence. When we checked on 14 September 2026, the £21.99/£25.99 offer rose to £29.00 from 31 March 2027 and £33.00 from 31 March 2028; when we checked on 26 October 2026, Full Fibre started from £21.99 a month, rising to £25.99 from 31 March 2027 and £29.99 from 31 March 2028. That is clearer than “CPI + 3.9%”, but it is still a rise — diary it before you treat the first-year cost as the price for the whole contract.

Contracts on the Full Fibre Reward Card footnotes are 24 months. Leaving early usually means an early termination fee based on remaining months — read the pre-contract summary at checkout for your exact ETF. One Touch Switch (Ofcom’s broadband switching process) is how you move between providers with less downtime; keep your Plusnet account tidy until the gaining provider confirms the switch window.

Which Plusnet speed should you actually buy?

Marketing loves 900Mb. Households often need less:

• Browsing, HD streams on 1–2 devices — Full Fibre 74 or 145 is usually plenty where available.

• Family of four, 4K, video calls — 300Mb is a comfortable Openreach tier for many homes.

• Heavy upload, creators, many concurrent 4K streams — 500 or 900, if the spine and Wi-Fi can use it.

Wi-Fi, not the ONT, is still the bottleneck in most UK flats. A Hub Two on the wrong shelf behind a boiler will make a 500Mb package feel like 40Mb. Place the hub centrally, use Ethernet for the work laptop if you can, and only then decide you “need” 900.

How to buy Plusnet without getting stung

1. Open plus.net/broadband/ in a private window and run the service checker for your postcode.

2. Note the exact Full Fibre tier, monthly path, activation fee and rise dates on the pre-contract summary.

3. Decide whether a Reward Card matters to you — nice to have, not a substitute for a lower monthly.

4. If you are switching, ask the gaining provider to use One Touch Switch and diary the install slot.

5. Photograph the ONT and hub serials after install; keep the welcome email with Reward Card claim steps.

Plusnet vs the rest of the Openreach shelf

Because Plusnet shares Openreach fibre with BT, EE and many aggregators, the physical download speed at your ONT is often similar across brands on the same tier. You are shopping customer service, price path, Reward Cards, call-plan bundles and hub features — not a unique yellow fibre. That is why a £21.99 introductory price matters: if two Openreach 150Mb-class products land on your street, the one with the lower first-year cost and clearer rise wording usually wins. Virgin is the strategic alternative only where cable is available and Openreach Full Fibre is not, or where a Virgin promo undercuts Openreach on your exact address.

Exit-fee credits are also left out of the first-year cost unless Plusnet takes them off your bill at checkout. Some rivals advertise “we’ll cover your exit fee up to £X”. That can be real money, but it is not a Plusnet monthly price, so it isn’t subtracted from the £287.88 first-year cost.

Router, mesh and the Hub Two reality check

Plusnet includes its Hub Two router with all its broadband packages. For a small flat, one hub is fine. For a three-storey terrace, budget a mesh or powerline kit rather than blaming “slow Full Fibre”. Gigabit packages without gigabit Wi-Fi are a common complaint pattern in UK forums — measure with Ethernet to the hub before you open a fault.
