Is Sky Mobile any good? For most people on a budget, yes: Sky Mobile runs on O2’s network, and when we checked on 29 October 2026 its 24-month SIM plans started at 25GB for £10 a month for the first 12 months, then £14, with unlimited calls and texts and spare data that rolls over for up to a year. The catch is that the low price only lasts 12 months, Sky’s terms say the data plan price may increase during the 24-month term, and its new 30-day plans cost more. This SwitchSquid review covers Sky Mobile’s coverage, real 24-month costs, the extras that make it different from O2, and cheaper rolling SIMs if you don’t want a two-year contract. SwitchSquid has no partner link for Sky Mobile, so the buttons on this page go to alternatives we can link to; if you buy through them, we may earn a commission, and it doesn’t change your price.

Want unlimited data on O2 without a contract? Chattr from £15
- Unlimited data, calls and texts for £15 a month, then £14 from month 6 and £13 from month 12, when we checked on 29 October 2026
- No contract and no credit check; Chattr runs on the same O2 network as Sky Mobile
- Main limitation: if 25GB is enough for you, Sky’s 24-month plan costs less in its first year
Sky Mobile review: the short verdict
Network: O2. Ofcom lists Sky Mobile alongside Tesco Mobile and giffgaff as providers that use the O2 network, so your signal is O2’s signal.
Best value: the 24-month plans, with 25GB for £10 a month for 12 months, then £14. The 1GB plan is £1 a month for 12 months, then £5.
Best feature: Roll. Unused data goes into your Sky Piggybank and lasts up to 12 months, except on Unlimited.
Weakest point: price certainty. Sky’s key facts say the data plan price may increase during the minimum term, and the offer price is lost if you Mix to another plan.
Who should look elsewhere: anyone who wants unlimited data without a long contract, or a fixed price for the whole term.
Sky Mobile prices compared: October 2026
All Sky Mobile SIM plans include unlimited UK calls and texts. The 24-month plans carry the headline offers; the 30-day plans are newer and let you leave on 30 days’ notice. The table puts Sky’s main plans next to O2 itself and three rolling SIMs, all prices as listed when we checked on 29 October 2026.
Plan | Network | Data | Monthly price | Contract | Price during the term |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Sky Mobile 25GB | O2 | 25GB | £10 for 12 months, then £14 | 24 months | May increase, according to Sky’s terms |

SMARTY 40GB | VodafoneThree | 40GB | £7 through our link | 1-month rolling | Cancel or change anytime |
Over 24 months, and assuming Sky doesn’t raise the price, the 25GB plan costs £288, the 75GB plan £432 and Unlimited £552. The other 24-month plans on Sky’s page were 1GB at £1 for 12 months then £5, 5GB at £6 then £10, 3GB at £9, 10GB at £12, 50GB at £17 and 100MB at £5. On the 30-day side, 5GB was listed at £11 a month, 75GB at £19 and Unlimited at £26.
Chattr runs on O2 according to SIM Only Finder’s guide to O2 networks (October 2026), and Mozillion runs on EE according to SIM Sherpa’s Mozillion review. Chattr, Mozillion and SMARTY prices come from each provider’s own page on 29 October 2026.
Is Sky Mobile coverage any good?
Sky Mobile coverage is O2 coverage. Sky doesn’t own any masts; it buys access to O2’s 4G and 5G network, so in any given spot a Sky SIM gets the same signal as an O2 SIM. Ofcom’s coverage checker FAQs name Sky Mobile, Tesco Mobile and giffgaff as O2-network providers. Sky’s own plans page says its network covers 99% of the UK.
A national percentage tells you little about your street, so do two checks before you switch:
Use Ofcom’s Map Your Mobile checker. Enter your home and work postcodes and look at the O2 results for indoor and outdoor 4G and 5G.
Ask someone on O2, giffgaff or Tesco Mobile. If their phone works well in your kitchen, a Sky SIM will behave the same way.
If O2 is weak where you live, no O2-based provider will fix that, however good the price. Our UK network coverage comparison and O2 coverage checker guide explain how to read the results.
Is O2 or Sky better?
On signal, it’s a tie, because they share the same network. The differences are price, contract terms and extras:
Price: on 29 October 2026, O2’s own Unlimited Classic SIM was £23 a month on 24 months, with the listing showing it rising to £25.50 and then £28 during the contract. Sky Unlimited was £21 for 12 months, then £25.
Price rises: O2 shows its rises in pounds up front. Sky’s key facts say the data plan price may increase during the minimum term without fixing an amount. SIM Only Finder (reviewed October 2026) reports that Sky raised most bills by £1.50 a month in February 2026.
Extras: Sky customers get Roll and Mix, and Sky says you can stream on all Sky apps without using your data allowance, subject to fair use.
Flexibility: Sky’s 30-day plans cost more each month than its 24-month offers for the same data, so flexibility has a price.
If you already pay for Sky TV or broadband, Sky Mobile sits neatly in the same account. If you just want the cheapest O2 signal, a rolling SIM such as Chattr can work out cheaper than both. Our O2 SIM only deals page has O2’s own range.
Why is my signal so bad on Sky Mobile?
Because Sky uses O2’s masts, a poor signal on Sky usually means O2 is weak at that spot, or that something on the phone needs changing. Work through these steps:
Compare with an O2 user nearby. If they have the same problem, it’s the network, not your SIM.
Turn on Wi-Fi calling. Sky’s key facts confirm Wi-Fi calling for calls and texts over home broadband, which is the simplest fix for weak indoor signal.
Check your phone is unlocked and up to date. Sky’s terms say calls and texts won’t work if you activate the SIM in a phone locked to another network.
Check data roaming near borders. Sky warns that close to borders your phone may pick up another network; selecting “National roaming only” stops that.
Ask Sky for a replacement SIM if an O2 phone works fine where yours doesn’t.
If none of that helps, the cure is a different network, not a different O2 reseller. Mozillion runs on EE and SMARTY on VodafoneThree’s network, so they’re the obvious switches if O2 is the problem.

Why are Sky mobiles so cheap?
Sky’s headline prices are introductory. Every 24-month offer on its page is a first-12-months price: 25GB is £10 a month for a year, then £14; Unlimited is £21, then £25. Over two years, the average monthly cost of the 25GB plan is £12, not £10.
Three other conditions in Sky’s key facts explain the low entry prices:
The data offer is lost if you use Mix to move to another plan during the contract.
The data plan price may increase during the 24-month minimum term, excluding VAT changes.
Every plan is subject to status and a credit check.
For phones, Sky splits the device loan from the data plan, so a cheap data plan can sit alongside a separate monthly handset payment. Compare the total of both before you sign.
What you get with Sky Mobile
Roll: unused data rolls into your Sky Piggybank each month in 1GB steps and can be used within 12 months. You can share rolled data with up to seven SIMs on your account. Unlimited plans don’t roll.
Mix: you can change your data plan whenever you like in the My Sky app; downgrades take effect the following month.
Roaming: Roaming Passport Plus lets you use your UK allowance in 120 destinations for £2 a day, and the Republic of Ireland costs nothing extra. Sky VIP Diamond customers roam free.
Switching: Sky says it completes your switch within one working day if you give it your PAC before 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Support: Sky advertises 24/7 switching support with a real person.

Cheaper rolling alternatives to Sky Mobile
If the 24-month contract and the possibility of a price rise put you off, three rolling SIMs undercut Sky’s 30-day plans:
Chattr Freedom One (O2): unlimited data, calls and texts for £15 a month on a 30-day plan, falling to £14 from month 6 and £13 from month 12, with no credit check. That’s £11 a month less than Sky’s 30-day Unlimited listing. Read our Chattr review.
Mozillion 80GB (EE): 80GB for £9.90 on a 1-month plan, with no credit check, no mid-contract price rises and EU roaming in 41 countries. That’s more data than Sky’s 75GB plan for less money.
SMARTY 40GB (VodafoneThree): 40GB for £7 through our link on a 1-month plan you can cancel or change anytime, with no credit checks. Our SMARTY review has the details.
For other O2-network options, our Tesco Mobile review and giffgaff SIM only deals cover the two other big names on the same network.

Important conditions
Sky prices are those shown on sky.com when we checked on 29 October 2026. Offers are for new customers and subject to status and a credit check.
Sky’s 24-month offer prices apply for the first 12 months, the offer is lost if you Mix to another plan, and the data plan price may increase during the term.

Coverage depends on your exact location. Check Ofcom’s checker for each network.

Final decision card
Sky Mobile is a solid O2-network choice if your O2 signal is good and you’re happy with a 24-month contract: 25GB for £10 a month for the first year, then £14, plus data that rolls over for 12 months. Budget for the higher second-year price and the possibility of a rise during the term. If you want unlimited data without a contract, Chattr on the same O2 network is cheaper, and Mozillion or SMARTY are the rolling picks if you need a different network.
