New-customer contracts follow EE’s pounds-and-pence path: £4 extra each 31 March for broadband joined from 6 August 2025 (EE Home Price Guide, prices effective 31 July 2026). Year-1 cash = (12 × offer monthly) + activation. Month-one totals that already include activation (£55.99 / £39.99 / £41.99 / £70.99) match that arithmetic. After month 12 you are still inside a typical 24-month minimum term — budget the March 2027 rise for the second year.
Mid-contract rises — read the pounds, not the vibes
EE’s July 2026 Home Price Guide is blunt. Customers who joined or upgraded from 6 August 2025 (or who were moved onto the latest pounds-and-pence terms in early 2026) see broadband rise by £4 on 31 March each year, TV by £2, and out-of-bundle charges by 5%. Older join windows used £3 broadband rises. The 900Mbps hero callout on the shop today already prints the path: first month £41.99 (offer + £10 activation), then £35.99 in March 2027 and £39.99 in March 2028 — that is £31.99 + £4 and +£8.
After the minimum term, EE says the monthly price increases by no more than £5 versus the last in-contract month (guide wording). Out-of-contract drift still matters if you forget to recontract.
Who should pick which Core speed
150Mbps Core suits small flats, light streaming, and homework Wi-Fi if the guarantee (125Mbps) lands. It is the Year-1 cash lead on EE’s own Core ladder today, but the £30 activation hurts if you might move within a year — One Touch Switch helps the leave process; it does not erase activation you already paid.
500Mbps Core is the practical family rung: £4 more per month than 150Mbps after you ignore activation theatre, £10 activation on the promo, and a 425Mbps guarantee that survives several 4K streams plus WFH uploads better than copper-era “up to 67” nostalgia.
900Mbps Core is EE’s marketing spear. At £31.99 with £10 activation it is only £24/year above 500Mbps on offer monthly alone — cheap insurance if several people game and upload. The 700Mbps guarantee is the number that matters more than the “900” label.
1.6Gbps Core is for power users and future-proofing where EE’s full fibre is live. £40.99 plus £30 activation is a different budget conversation — only buy it if a postcode check shows the speed and you have a use case.
Setup, switching and what EE includes
Core cards advertise WiFi 7, real-time “dodgy website” protection language, and app controls. EE retains hub ownership on typical terms. Digital home phone is optional and priced separately in the Home Price Guide — do not assume a dial tone is in the broadband-only card. If you have telecare equipment on a copper line, call EE before you order a broadband-only switch.
Switching: EE’s shop copy still pushes One Touch Switch style messaging (they notify the losing provider). Keep the old service live until the new line passes a speed test at your busiest hour. Credit-check and 24-month minimum term apply on standard Core deals.
How this compares without inventing rival £
Sky, Virgin Media, BT and YouFibre all sell overlapping full-fibre rungs. I did not re-grid their entire national shops in this fetch cycle, so I will not invent a “EE is £X cheaper than Sky” line. Use EE’s own ladder above as the primary ranking, then open each rival’s postcode journey on the day you buy. Altnets can undercut on monthly £ where they have dug the street; EE’s pitch is national reach plus the EE mobile ecosystem if you already take EE SIMs.

Wi-Fi 7 hubs vs the speed you actually feel
EE’s Core cards lean hard on WiFi 7 and Smart Hub language. That helps crowded flats with many devices, but it does not create fibre that is not in the street. If your postcode only returns part-fibre or a lower Full Fibre rung, no hub firmware will invent a 700Mbps guarantee. Run a wired speed test after install, then a Wi-Fi test in the furthest bedroom — move the hub before you open a fault ticket.
Upload matters for video calls and cloud backups. Marketing still sells download. If two people WFH with cameras on, ask EE’s journey what upload the available product quotes — and treat “average speed to the hub” as the regulatory-style figure, not a phone-screen screenshot from a neighbour.
