The practical way to choose a full fibre broadband deal is to compare the first-year cost (monthly fee, setup, router and any exit fees) for the full fibre networks that reach your address. BT, Gigaclear and Highland Broadband are compared below, so check which of them reaches your address.

What “full fibre” means
Full fibre (FTTP) runs fibre to the premises. That is different from part-fibre / FTTC cabinets that still use a copper last mile. If your postcode is only FTTC-ready, a “900Mbps” package is not something you can order until the build reaches you. Check Openreach or your provider’s checker before you settle on a speed.
Headline “from £X” prices often leave out setup fees, so compare the monthly price, setup and router fees, price rises and exit fees together, and re-check the plan on the provider’s page on the day you order.

How to compare full fibre deals
Run the postcode checker for every provider on your shortlist.
Note how much upload you need at busy times (cloud backups, video calls, school calls).
Add setup, delivery and router fees to the monthly price.
Read the mid-contract price-rise terms.
Price any exit fees if months remain on your old contract.
Only then go to the provider to order.
A cheaper 150Mbps full fibre plan that actually reaches your address often beats a 900Mbps plan you cannot order. Speed tests after install matter more than brochure Mbps — keep the order confirmation and photograph the engineer’s light levels if you later need to report a fault.
When BT Full Fibre 900 makes sense
BT Full Fibre 900 was £33.99 a month on BT’s site on 2 November 2026, rising to £37.99 from 31 March 2027 and £41.99 from 31 March 2028, on a 24-month contract. Re-open BT’s page on the day you order, as offers can change.
BT’s Openreach footprint is wide, which is why it is a fair default if you are not sure which networks reach you. If your street is Virgin Media cable-only or an alt-net build, run those providers’ checkers too, and in rural areas check Gigaclear, and in the Highlands check Highland Broadband.
Contracts and mid-contract price rises
Most full fibre deals run for 18 or 24 months. Since 17 January 2025, any price rise in a new broadband contract must be set out in pounds and pence before you sign, so screenshot the rise schedule before you pay. If you are a landlord or student let, confirm who holds the contract and who can authorise an engineer visit.
Renewals, students and working from home
Autumn is when summer moves finish, university halls settle and many people spend more days on video calls. Watch for adverts that quote a low monthly price but leave out setup fees. If you are coming off a promotional rate, open your latest bill and find the out-of-contract or renewal price before you compare new deals.
Landlords should decide who holds the ISP contract. A tenant-named contract that runs past the end of a tenancy creates messy cease charges. A landlord-named order needs a clear recharge clause. Either way, photograph the ONT / master socket after install so the next engineer is not guessing which fibre drop is live.
Upload, mesh Wi-Fi and the last ten metres
Download speed sells broadband, but upload speed and Wi-Fi coverage decide how it feels day to day. Cloud photo backups, security cameras and two simultaneous Teams calls care about upload and airtime interference more than a 900Mbps WAN LED. Budget for a mesh kit if your floors are thick Victorian brick. Put the router in a central open space, not a metal cupboard under the stairs. If BT’s router in modem mode plus your own access points is the plan, confirm that mode is supported on the BT Full Fibre 900 package before you refuse their equipment.
Latency for gaming and VoIP is usually fine on healthy FTTP. Congestion appears at busy-hour contention on some shared segments — keep a weekend evening speed-test habit for the first fortnight and raise a fault with timestamps if you are far below the order speed.
Switching without a silent weekend outage
Order early enough that the cease on the old ISP overlaps cleanly. Keep the old service live until the new ONT lights green and you have passed a soak test. Export router settings, port-forward notes and any IoT static leases. Update DDNS / alarm communicator IP allow-lists if you have them. For voice, decide whether you still need a geographic number; many care alarms and lift lines still assume a working analogue path — check before you cancel a copper line that was quietly carrying them.
