Is giffgaff’s 80GB for £10 a month worth it? As of 27 October 2026, giffgaff is giving 80GB of data a month for £10 on its 18-month plan, which normally comes with 25GB, so 18 months cost £180 in total and the data works out at 12.5p per gigabyte. giffgaff says you need to activate the plan by 23:59 on Friday 30 October 2026 to get the extra data, and it then lasts for the full 18 months. The catch is the commitment: this is an 18-month contract, so if you leave early giffgaff may charge an early termination fee. This SwitchSquid guide sets out what the offer includes, how it compares with giffgaff’s 40GB for £8 and a no-contract SMARTY plan, and how to switch without losing your number. We may earn a commission if you buy through links on this page; it doesn’t change the price you pay.

giffgaff 80GB for £10 a month on 18 months

  • 80GB of data a month (the 25GB plan plus 55GB extra), unlimited UK calls and texts, £10 a month, £180 over 18 months, when we checked on 27 October 2026
  • No code needed: giffgaff’s deadline is to activate the £10 plan by 23:59 on Friday 30 October 2026; existing giffgaff members opt in through the giffgaff app first
  • Main limitation: an 18-month contract on O2’s network, with up to 5GB of roaming data in the EU and selected destinations

What do you get with giffgaff’s 80GB for £10 deal?

The plan underneath is giffgaff’s £10 a month, 18-month plan. Its usual allowance is 25GB. While the offer runs, giffgaff adds 55GB a month on top, so you get 80GB every month for the whole 18 months, starting from the day the plan first goes live on your account.

  • Data: 80GB a month (25GB plan plus 55GB extra) for 18 months.

  • Price: £10 a month, £180 over the 18 months, with nothing to pay upfront for the SIM.

  • Calls and texts: unlimited UK minutes and texts.

  • Network: giffgaff runs on O2’s network.

  • Roaming: up to 5GB of data in the EU and selected destinations at no extra cost; giffgaff charges 10p per MB after that.

  • Credit check: giffgaff lists “no credit checks” on its 18-month plans.

  • Deadline: activate the plan by 23:59 on Friday 30 October 2026. giffgaff’s plan page says to sign up before 30/10/26, so don’t leave it to the last day: allow time for the SIM to arrive and be activated.

The offer is open to new and existing giffgaff members aged 18 or over who live in the UK. Existing members have to opt in through the giffgaff app first, then change to the £10 plan or set it as their next plan, and activate it before the deadline. Members who already have an earlier promotion on the £10 plan are excluded.

All of these details come from giffgaff’s own announcement and promotions terms, checked on 27 October 2026. Plans and offers can change, so confirm the allowance on the order page before you pay.

What the same £10 buys outside the offer

Prices and dates as checked on 27 October 2026 in giffgaff’s 23 October announcement, which gives both activation deadlines, giffgaff’s promotions terms and SMARTY’s offer page. The SMARTY total assumes you keep renewing on the same plan for 18 months.

Two things stand out. First, the 80GB plan is the cheapest per gigabyte of the four by a clear margin, and it gives you twice the data of the 40GB plan for £2 a month more, or £36 more over 18 months. Second, if 40GB is plenty for you, SMARTY’s £7 plan costs £18 less than giffgaff’s £8 plan over the same 18 months and lets you leave at the end of any month, though it runs on Three’s network rather than O2’s.

If you can’t activate by 30 October, or you know you use well under 40GB, giffgaff’s 40GB for £8 is on the same 18-month terms, and giffgaff says in its 23 October 2026 announcement that it can be activated until 4 December 2026.

Need less data? giffgaff 40GB for £8 a month on 18 months

  • 40GB a month (the 6GB plan plus 34GB extra) for £8 a month, £144 over 18 months, when we checked on 27 October 2026
  • No code needed: giffgaff’s promotions terms say to activate by 23:59 on 4 December 2026; existing members opt in through the app
  • Same 18-month terms, O2 network and 5GB roaming cap as the 80GB plan

Choose this plan

Is 80GB a month enough, or more than you need?

For most people, 80GB is a lot. Netflix’s help centre puts high-definition streaming at up to 3GB an hour, so 80GB is about 26 hours of HD video a month. On the Netflix app’s automatic mobile setting, which Netflix says gives about four hours per gigabyte, it stretches much further. Music streaming, maps and messaging use far less.

Where 80GB earns its keep is if you use your phone as a hotspot for a laptop, watch a lot of video away from Wi-Fi, or have patchy home broadband and lean on mobile data in the evenings. If that sounds like you, the jump from 40GB to 80GB for £2 a month is the better buy.

If you spend most of the day on Wi-Fi at home and at work, you may never get near 40GB. The quickest way to find out is to open your phone’s settings and look at mobile data used over the last few months. Your current network’s app usually shows the same figure month by month. Pick the plan that covers your busiest month with a little to spare, not your quietest.

What happens after 18 months?

The extra 55GB lasts for 18 months from the day the £10 plan first goes live. After that, if you simply carry on, giffgaff’s terms say you drop back to the plan’s standard allowance, which is 25GB for £10. That is the moment to look again: either change plan with giffgaff or compare what else is on offer. Put a reminder in your calendar for month 17 so the change doesn’t catch you out.

You can move up or down a plan during the 18 months. Leaving giffgaff altogether before the end is different: giffgaff’s terms say you may have to pay an early termination charge. Check the amount with giffgaff before you order if there is any chance you will want to leave early.

Already with giffgaff? How to get the extra data

Existing members can have the 80GB too, but there is one extra step. You need to opt in to the offer in the giffgaff app during the offer period. After opting in, you can buy the £10 plan, set it as your next plan, or repurchase onto it early.

The detail that matters is timing. To qualify, the plan has to be activated by 23:59 on 30 October 2026, not just chosen. If your current plan renews after that date and you only set the £10 plan as your next plan, check in the app that it will go live in time. If it won’t, an early repurchase onto the £10 plan is the safer route.

If you already get an earlier promotion on the £10 plan, giffgaff excludes you from this one, so compare your current allowance with 80GB before changing anything.

How to switch to giffgaff and keep your number

  1. Check coverage first. giffgaff uses O2’s masts. Enter your home and work postcodes into O2’s coverage checker, or read our O2 coverage checker guide.

  2. Get your PAC code. Text PAC to 65075 from your current phone. It’s free and you should get the code by text within a minute. You can use it for 30 days.

  3. Order the SIM or eSIM. Open giffgaff’s £10 plan through the View this deal link near the top, then choose a physical SIM or an eSIM if your phone supports it.

  4. Activate before the deadline. Activate the £10 plan by 23:59 on Friday 30 October 2026. Leave time for post if you choose a physical SIM.

  5. Move your number. Give giffgaff your PAC code once the SIM is active. Your number usually moves on the next working day, and your old contract closes automatically.

If you are still in a minimum term with your current network, check the exit fee before you switch; it may be cheaper to wait until the end of your contract. Not sure which plan suits you? Squid AI can suggest SIM plans for your data use, and our giffgaff SIM only deals page lists the wider range.

Fit summary

  • Good fit for giffgaff 80GB at £10: people who use 40GB or more a month, use their phone as a hotspot, and are happy to stay for 18 months on O2’s network.

  • Good fit for giffgaff 40GB at £8: lighter users happy to commit for 18 months, or anyone who can’t activate by 30 October.

  • Consider SMARTY 40GB at £7 instead: if you don’t want an 18-month commitment, or Three’s signal is better than O2’s where you live and work.

  • Think twice: if you travel outside the UK for long spells, because giffgaff’s inclusive roaming data is capped at 5GB.

Important conditions

  • Activation deadline: the £10 plan must be activated by 23:59 on Friday 30 October 2026 to get 80GB. Ordering alone is not enough.

  • Length of the extra data: 80GB a month for 18 months from when the plan first goes live, then the standard 25GB if you stay on the £10 plan.

  • Leaving early: you can change plan during the term, but leaving giffgaff before 18 months are up may mean an early termination charge.

  • Existing members: must opt in through the giffgaff app; members already on an earlier £10 plan promotion are excluded.

  • Payment: giffgaff may ask you to save a card or PayPal account before buying the plan.

  • Roaming: up to 5GB of data in the EU and selected destinations, then 10p per MB.

FAQ

How long does giffgaff’s 80GB for £10 offer last?

You have until 23:59 on Friday 30 October 2026 to activate the £10 plan and qualify. Once you qualify, you get 80GB a month for 18 months from the day the plan first goes live. After 18 months the plan returns to its standard 25GB allowance if you stay on it.

Is the 80GB for £10 deal a contract?

Yes. It is giffgaff’s 18-month plan, so you commit for 18 months at £10 a month, £180 in total. You can change plan during that time, but leaving giffgaff early may mean an early termination charge.

Can existing giffgaff members get 80GB for £10?

Yes, if they opt in through the giffgaff app and activate the £10 plan by 30 October 2026. Members already getting an earlier promotion on the £10 plan are excluded. Check in the app that your new plan will go live before the deadline.

Which network does giffgaff use?

giffgaff runs on O2’s network, so your signal will match what an O2 customer gets in the same place. Check O2’s coverage map for your home and work postcodes before you order. If O2 is weak where you spend most time, a plan on another network, such as SMARTY on Three, may serve you better.

Does giffgaff do a credit check on the 18-month plan?

giffgaff lists “no credit checks” beside its 18-month plans. It may ask you to save a payment card or PayPal account before you buy the plan.

Can I use the 80GB abroad?

Only part of it. giffgaff includes up to 5GB of data in the EU and selected destinations, then charges 10p per MB. If you travel often, a plan with a larger roaming allowance may suit you better.

What if I miss the 30 October deadline?

giffgaff says in its 23 October 2026 announcement that its 40GB for £8 offer on the 18-month plan can be activated until 4 December 2026. If you would rather not sign up for 18 months, SMARTY’s 40GB plan is £7 a month through our link on a one-month plan when we checked on 27 October 2026.

Final decision card

Don’t want to commit for 18 months? SMARTY’s 40GB plan at £7 a month lets you leave at the end of any month.

No 18-month commitment? SMARTY 40GB for £7 a month

  • 40GB of 5G and 4G data with unlimited UK calls and texts for £7 a month through our link (usually £8), when we checked on 27 October 2026
  • No code needed: the price is applied on SMARTY’s page when you arrive through this link; new SMARTY customers only
