Is Talkmobile any good? As of 27 October 2026, Talkmobile is one of the best-rated cheap SIM providers in the UK: it came top of Which?’s customer survey with an 83% score, and its 12-month SIM only plans start at 100GB for £4.98 a month for 3 months, then £9.95, about £104 over the year. Talkmobile is a budget brand that runs on Vodafone’s network and, according to its own site, now also connects to Three’s network automatically. You get 5G, Wi-Fi calling, eSIM and EU roaming in 47 countries with no credit check. The catch for us is that Talkmobile isn’t on our comparison list, so we don’t link to it directly. The three deal boxes on this page are similar plans from Vodafone, Lebara and SMARTY that you can order through us, and each one is labelled as an alternative. We may earn a commission if you buy through links on this page; it doesn’t change the price you pay.

Alternative on the same masts: Vodafone 120GB 5G SIM only, £14 a month with £120 cashback

  • 120GB of 5G data with unlimited minutes and texts for £14 a month, £16.50 from 1 April 2027, when we checked on 27 October 2026
  • £183 over 12 months, or £63 after £120 cashback by redemption, an average of £5.25 a month
  • Main limitation: you must claim the cashback yourself, speeds are capped at 100Mbps, and there’s a credit check

Talkmobile at a glance

Talkmobile is Vodafone’s long-standing low-cost brand, and it keeps things simple: SIM only plans, a short list of data sizes, and a choice between a 12-month contract or a 30-day rolling plan. There are no handset deals on its main SIM pages, no streaming bundles and no loyalty extras. What you pay for is data, calls and texts on a big network, at a price well below Vodafone’s own.

When we checked on 27 October 2026, every Talkmobile SIM only plan included unlimited UK minutes and texts, 5G at no extra cost, Wi-Fi calling, eSIM and EU roaming in 47 destinations with a 5GB fair use limit. Talkmobile says there is no credit check, and its rolling plans need 30 days’ notice to cancel. If you want to know more about the bigger allowance, our Talkmobile 200GB guide covers it in detail.

Talkmobile SIM only plans and prices (October 2026)

These are the headline 12-month prices shown on Talkmobile’s SIM only page on 27 October 2026. Both use a three-month introductory price, then the normal monthly price from month 4 (27 January 2027 for an order placed on 27 October 2026).

  • 100GB, 12 months: £4.98 a month for 3 months, then £9.95 a month. Total over 12 months: about £104.49.

  • 150GB, 12 months: £5.97 a month for 3 months, then £11.95 a month. Total over 12 months: about £125.46.

  • 30-day plans: 10GB for £5.95, 30GB for £6.95, 60GB for £7.95, 80GB for £8.95, 100GB for £9.95 and 150GB for £11.95 a month, with 30 days’ notice to cancel. The 100GB rolling plan costs the same £9.95 a month as the 12-month plan after its first 3 months, so the 12-month deal saves you £14.91 in total, all of it in those first 3 months.

The totals are our own sums from the prices on the page: three months at the lower price plus nine months at the full price. Divide by 12 and the 100GB plan works out at about £8.71 a month, which is hard to beat for that much data on a Which? Recommended Provider.

Talkmobile vs Vodafone vs EE vs Lebara

Here is how Talkmobile compares with three providers people often weigh it against. Prices are the examples we checked on 27 October 2026. Which? customer scores come from its January 2026 survey of 5,137 mobile customers.

What the numbers say: Talkmobile beats Vodafone itself on monthly price and on customer score, using the same masts. Vodafone’s 120GB plan through Mobiles.co.uk costs £183 over 12 months, but after £120 cashback by redemption it drops to £63, an average of £5.25 a month, which is cheaper than Talkmobile if you remember to claim. Lebara is the pick if you never want a contract. EE is the one to choose if EE coverage is clearly better where you live, but it costs more and has yearly price rises written into its terms.

What network does Talkmobile use?

Talkmobile has always run on Vodafone’s network. Since Vodafone and Three joined up, Talkmobile’s network page says customers automatically access both the Vodafone and Three networks, which it calls The Nation’s Network. Talkmobile doesn’t promise both networks on every street, so treat it as a bonus rather than a guarantee.

Before you switch, put your postcode into the coverage checker on Talkmobile’s network page, and ask friends nearby on Vodafone or Three how their signal is indoors. Speed details for your plan appear in the Contract Summary, so read that before you order rather than assuming you get the network’s full speed.

Talkmobile customer service and reviews

This is where Talkmobile stands out. In Which?’s review dated 28 July 2026, Talkmobile came first of the 15 providers rated, with a customer score of 83%, and it holds both Which? Recommended Provider and Great Value status. For comparison, Which? gave SMARTY 79%, Lebara 78%, EE 74% and Vodafone 72% in the same survey.

Which? also notes that Talkmobile’s terms have not included in-contract price rises since 10 December 2024. That matters, because many big networks now add a fixed rise every April or March. With Talkmobile, the price on the page is the price you agree to, apart from the planned step up after any introductory months.

The trade-off is a simpler package: there are fewer extras than with Vodafone or EE, such as streaming bundles or rewards.

Roaming, 5G, eSIM and the extras

  • EU roaming: included in 47 countries, with a 5GB fair use limit when we checked on 27 October 2026. Heavy users abroad should look at a bigger roaming allowance elsewhere.

  • 5G: included on SIM only plans at no extra cost, where you have 5G coverage and a 5G phone.

  • eSIM: available, so you can set up without waiting for a physical SIM if your phone supports it.

  • Wi-Fi calling: included, which helps if your home has weak indoor signal.

  • Keeping your number: text PAC to 65075 from your old network, then give the code to Talkmobile when you order.

Is Talkmobile slower than Vodafone?

Talkmobile uses the same masts as Vodafone, so where signal is the same, everyday browsing, maps and streaming should feel much the same. Talkmobile doesn’t put a headline speed limit on its SIM only page; instead, its terms say the speed details for your plan appear in the Contract Summary you get before you order. Read that line before you buy. For comparison, the Vodafone 120GB plan we link to through Mobiles.co.uk is listed with a maximum speed of 100Mbps, which is plenty for HD video on a phone.

Why is Talkmobile so cheap?

Talkmobile keeps its costs down by keeping things simple. It sells a short list of SIM only plans, mostly online, with no streaming bundles, no rewards scheme and no shops of its own. It rents capacity on its parent group’s network rather than building masts. You still get 5G, eSIM, Wi-Fi calling and EU roaming, so the low price comes from fewer extras rather than a weaker core service.

What are the disadvantages of Talkmobile?

  • Roaming limits: EU roaming is capped at a 5GB fair use limit, which is low if you work abroad or travel for long spells.

  • Few extras: no streaming add-ons or rewards, unlike Vodafone or EE.

  • Coverage depends on Vodafone and Three: if EE or O2 is clearly stronger where you live or work, Talkmobile won’t fix that.

  • Introductory prices step up: the 100GB plan rises from £4.98 to £9.95 after 3 months, so judge it on the 12-month total of about £104.

  • Not on comparison sites we work with: we can’t link to Talkmobile, so there’s no cashback through us.

Is EE better than Talkmobile?

EE runs its own network and is often strong on coverage, so if EE clearly has the best signal at your home, it can be worth paying more. On service and price, Talkmobile comes out ahead: Which? gave Talkmobile 83% and EE 74% in its January 2026 survey, and EE’s terms set a price rise each 1 March, while Which? says Talkmobile’s terms haven’t included in-contract rises since 10 December 2024. EE’s unlimited plans also come with a 600GB fair use limit. For most people with good Vodafone or Three signal, Talkmobile is the better value.
