The useful detail in these prices is that the 25GB and 200GB plans cost the same on a 1-month rolling plan as on a 12-month contract. Unless you specifically want a fixed contract, the rolling option gives you the same data for the same price and lets you leave any month. Unlimited data is the exception: it is £20 a month rolling, but from £17 on a 12-month or 24-month contract.

How much data do you actually need?
Most people overestimate. Before you pick a plan, open your current network's app or your phone's settings and look at how much mobile data you used in each of the last three months. Take the highest month and add about a fifth for headroom.
Under 20GB a month: the 25GB rolling plan at £7 gives you comfortable headroom.
20GB to 40GB: the 50GB 12-month plan at £8, or the 36GB rolling plan at £8 if you want to leave any month.
40GB to 80GB: the 70GB rolling plan at £10 or the 100GB rolling plan at £12.
80GB to 180GB: the 200GB rolling plan at £14, the same price as iD's 12-month 200GB plan.
Regularly over 180GB, or sharing a hotspot with other people: the 300GB rolling plan at £16, or Unlimited from £17 a month on a 12-month contract (£20 rolling).
Hotspotting is the thing that usually pushes people up a tier. An hour of HD streaming on a laptop can use 2GB to 3GB, so a few evenings a week can use a lot of data.
Worked examples
A hybrid worker using about 150GB a month. The 200GB rolling plan at £14 a month covers it. The rolling Unlimited plan is £20 a month, £6 a month more for data they would not use. If their usage creeps up, they can move to the 300GB plan at £16 the following month.
A student using about 20GB a month. The 25GB rolling plan at £7 a month gives some headroom. The 200GB plan would be £7 a month more for data that goes unused.
Someone happy to commit for two years. The 250GB 24-month plan is £14 a month, the same monthly price as the 200GB rolling plan, with 50GB more data each month. It is worth it only if you are sure you will stay for 24 months and need the extra data.
iD Mobile compared with other big-data SIMs

Roaming, 5G and price changes
iD SIM only plans include 5G at no extra cost where Three has 5G coverage and your phone supports it. Many modern phones can use an iD eSIM instead of a physical SIM card. iD offers roaming in a list of destinations with a fair-use allowance, so read the roaming section of your plan before a long trip abroad.

Check Three's coverage for your home, work and regular routes using Ofcom's coverage checker or Three's own map.
Text PAC to 65075 from your current phone. You will get a free code by text, usually within a minute. If you want a new number instead, text STAC to 75075.
Choose your iD plan and enter the PAC code during checkout, or after your SIM arrives.
Your number usually moves within one working day. Keep your old SIM in the phone until the move completes so you do not miss bank security texts.
