Next update: when Hyperoptic changes its prices (its 1Gb offer runs to 3 November 2026), or when BT or Virgin Media change theirs.
By: Switch Editorial Team, Switch Squid Ltd
As of 21 October 2026, Hyperoptic is one of the best-value full fibre providers if your building or street is on its network: 150Mb starts from £19 a month and 500Mb from £20 on a 24-month plan, and 1Gb is free for three months then £26 a month, with set price rises each April. It has passed two million homes and businesses in 64 towns and cities and reports a 4.6-star Trustpilot rating. The catch is reach, because Hyperoptic mainly serves flats and new-build developments in cities, so most UK homes can’t get it yet. This SwitchSquid review answers the questions people ask most, with costs against BT and Virgin Media. We may earn a commission if you buy through links on this page; it doesn’t change the price you pay.

An alternative where Hyperoptic hasn’t built yet; this isn’t a Hyperoptic offer
Main limitation: the price moves to £43.69 after the minimum term, and Virgin Media’s network isn’t at every address
Is Hyperoptic any good? The short answer
Yes, where you can get it. Hyperoptic combines low prices with full fibre speeds and some of the strongest customer reviews in UK broadband. The two things to check are whether it reaches your address and what the yearly price rises add up to.
Price: 150Mb from £19 a month and 500Mb from £20 on a 24-month plan when we checked on 21 October 2026. Hyperoptic says prices vary by location.
Price rises: fixed in pounds and pence. The 500Mb plan goes to £24 from April 2027 and £28 from April 2028.

Reach: two million homes and businesses passed in 64 towns and cities.
Awards: Hyperoptic says Which? named it a Great Value Broadband Provider for the third time.
Why is Hyperoptic so cheap?
Hyperoptic owns its own full fibre network, so it doesn’t rent lines from Openreach like BT, Sky or TalkTalk do. It has focused on dense city sites such as apartment blocks and new-build estates, where one connection into a building can serve many homes.
That model keeps costs down. In its 2025 results, Hyperoptic reported that customers took up its service in 31% of the homes it had passed on average, with mature sites above 60% and new-build sites above 70%. When a large share of a building signs up, each connection pays back faster, which helps it keep entry prices low.
Prices also vary by location, so the price you see after a postcode check may be different from the “from” price on Hyperoptic’s homepage.

Is Hyperoptic part of BT?
No. Hyperoptic is an independent company that has been connecting customers since 2011 and builds and runs its own network. According to its 2025 annual report, private equity investor KKR indirectly acquired a majority stake in its parent company on 1 November 2019.
It doesn’t use BT’s Openreach network for its own connections. In July 2026, Hyperoptic said it planned to start selling broadband beyond its own network in the third quarter of 2026, reaching about 1.8 million more homes. Those connections would use another operator’s lines, so check which network you would be on when you order.
Is Hyperoptic better than Openreach providers like BT or Vodafone?
On price and upload speeds, Hyperoptic often wins where it is available. On choice and reach, Openreach providers win, because Openreach full fibre reaches far more homes and you can buy it from BT, Vodafone, Sky, EE, TalkTalk and others.

What do Hyperoptic customers say?
Hyperoptic reports a 4.6-star Trustpilot rating from more than 39,000 five-star reviews, and its homepage says it has more five-star Trustpilot reviews than BT, Sky and Virgin Media combined. Those are Hyperoptic’s own figures, so read a range of recent reviews too.
The positive reviews tend to mention fast, consistent speeds, quick installation in buildings that are already connected and helpful support. Where people are unhappy, it is usually about waiting for a building to be connected, problems during installation or the price at the end of the contract. Hyperoptic says it monitors customer satisfaction through Trustpilot surveys and pays automatic compensation in line with Ofcom guidance.

FAQ
Is Hyperoptic good broadband?
Hyperoptic is a well-reviewed full fibre provider, with a 4.6-star Trustpilot rating it reports from more than 39,000 five-star reviews. It owns its own network, which helps it offer fast speeds at low prices. Its main drawback is that it only reaches about two million homes and businesses.
Why is Hyperoptic cheaper than BT?
Hyperoptic runs its own network in dense city buildings, where one connection can serve many homes. It doesn’t pay to rent Openreach lines. That lets it charge from £20 a month for 500Mb, compared with £35.99 for BT Full Fibre 900.
Who owns Hyperoptic?
Private equity investor KKR has held a majority stake in Hyperoptic’s parent company since 1 November 2019, according to Hyperoptic’s annual report. Hyperoptic isn’t part of BT. It builds and runs its own full fibre network.
Does Hyperoptic have price rises?
Yes, Hyperoptic shows set price rises in pounds and pence each April. For example, its 500Mb plan goes from £20 to £24 a month from April 2027 and £28 from April 2028. Check the exact figures for your address before you order.
Is Hyperoptic better than Vodafone?
Where both are available, Hyperoptic is often cheaper for similar speeds. Vodafone sells broadband on Openreach and CityFibre, so it reaches many more homes and offers mobile bundles. Compare the total cost over the contract for your postcode.
What if Hyperoptic isn’t available at my address?
Look at the other full fibre and cable networks that reach you. Virgin Media Gig1 costs £29.99 a month on a 24-month term, and BT Full Fibre 900 costs £35.99. A postcode check shows which networks you can get.
