Phones reach customers and stores from Friday 18 September 2026. Apple UK SIM-free pricing (checked on apple.com/uk shop pages on 10 September 2026) starts at £1,199 for iPhone 18 Pro (256GB) and £1,299 for iPhone 18 Pro Max (256GB). The standard iPhone 18 is not in this autumn wave — Apple is holding the regular iPhone 18 (and related non-Pro models) until spring 2027.

How to compare Pro vs Pro Max without marketing fog
Pick Pro if you want the new chip and variable-aperture camera in a one-handable 6.3-inch body, and you do not need the larger canvas or the longest video-playback claim. Pick Pro Max if the phone is your all-day screen and battery is the feature you actually notice by Thursday evening. Storage is the silent bill inflator: 256GB is the Apple UK entry tier on both; jumping to 512GB adds £200 on Apple’s SIM-free ladder before any network spreads the cost.
For contracts, ignore a lonely “from £X” tile until you can see:

Pro Max battery and screen — when the extra £100 Apple cash is “worth it”
On Apple’s SIM-free ladder the Pro Max entry price is £100 above Pro at 256GB (£1,299 vs £1,199, dated 10–11 September 2026). That £100 buys the 6.9-inch panel and Apple’s longer video-playback claim (Apple cites up to 45 hours of video playback on Pro Max). It does not buy a different chip — both use A20 Pro — and it does not buy a different main-camera idea; the variable aperture story is shared.
On a contract, that £100 Apple gap is only one input. Upfront, data tier and April rise lines can dwarf it. Rank total cost on the card, then ask whether you personally use a Max-size phone for hours of video and maps. If you mostly pocket-call and message, Pro is usually the saner flagship.
